School Uniform

School Uniform:

What a child wears to school reflects his / her attitude to learning. It portrays the schools’ ethos and shared positive values. We have a very simple uniform that pupils are encouraged to wear.

This is a navy sweatshirt or cardigan, a white blouse / shirt and black / navy trousers or skirt.

Year 6 pupils will be given a school blazer and a school tie. The purpose of this is to help to prepare them for their transition to High School and to show that they are in their last year at Charlestown and to raise their profile in school.

Our school uniform can be purchased from local retailers and Ziggy’s in Harpurhey or online at

PE and Games Kit:

It is important for pupils to wear the correct clothing for physical activities.

For PE children in KS1 and KS2 require a white t-shirt and dark shorts, either black or navy and trainers or pumps. Tracksuits or sweatshirts may be worn for outdoor games during the winter months. All clothing should be clearly labelled. For Health and Safety reasons jewellery must not be worn for sporting activities and long hair must be tied back.

Children in Year 4 attend weekly swimming lessons at Broadway Swimming baths.

Girls have to have a swimming costume, not a bikini or tankini, and boys must wear swimming trunks not shorts.

All children with long hair must wear a swimming hat. Again for Health and Safety reasons jewellery must not be worn, including ear studs or sleepers.

Jewellery and other adornment:

The only items that are considered appropriate for school are watches and studs or sleepers worn in pierced ears.

The school does not approve of either jewellery or cosmetics.

Please note that staff are not allowed to remove or look after jewellery for children. The safest place is at home.

Lost Property:

Putting your child’s name on all their clothing reduces the risk of things being lost. Please make sure you put your child’s name on all their clothing.

If your child has lost something then please check their classroom first and then the cloakroom.

At the end of term any lost property will be displayed to the children. If it is not claimed then it will be donated to charity
